If you have had a quick look through our website and the accompanying blog posts, you probably already realize how important it is to have mold removed from your home once it’s present. The longer it stays, the more it spreads, and the bigger risk it poses to your health. But, some Calgary homeowners are afraid of the mold testing process, worrying that it might be too expensive or invasive for them to think about. With that in mind, I’d like to share the three ways professionals look for mold in your home:
1. Visual inspection. This is the fastest, easiest, and most affordable way to identify mold. An experienced professional, with decades of experience, can quickly and reliably identify mold within your home. That’s because we know what the telltale signs are, and which areas are most likely to develop mold in the first place. Often, we can find it just by looking around in a few minutes or less.
2. Intrusive mold testing. If a visual inspection is inconclusive, we may need to get a better analysis, your mold removal team can do what’s called a tape lift a small piece of drywall in the suspected area and have it tested. This costs a bit more, because it involves sending a sample to our lab, but you’ll find out where your mold problem rates on a prevalence scale of 1 to 5 (five being highest).
3. Spore trap analysis. If you’d rather not opt for intrusive mold testing, you can ask for spore trap analysis. That involves having a hygienist take vials of air from each room in your house, and then having the spores counted and compared to outside air in a specialized lab. While this method of identifying mold costs the most, it also gives the most accurate and detailed information. Do you want an affordable and dependable Calgary mold removal team to assess your home?
