Does MY house have asbestos?
If your house was built before 1995 it has an increased risk of containing asbestos material. Although your house can still contain asbestos even if it was built after 1995. Materials that often contain asbestos include: drywall joint compound, texture coating, vinyl flooring, insulation, and much more. But the only way to know 100% if your house contains asbestos is best to have it tested by a qualified technician.
Testing Process
What is the testing process like? One of our qualified technicians will plan a time to come to your house and do a visual inspection and talk to you about your plans for the home. If they see materials that could be containing, they will take small samples (typically the size of a Loonie) from the area you are renovating. The number of samples taken depends on the size of the area you are renovating and on how many different materials in said area that could be containing asbestos. This standard is set by the province of Alberta. Once all the samples are taken they are sent to a laboratory for analysis. Typical turnaround time at the lab is 24 hours. All reporting will be sent to you via email within 48 hours.
